5 Morning Stretches for More Energy!

I have listed below 5 stretches you can do in the morning or even at night time just before bedtime.


Seated calf and hamstring stretch

This stretch will help with tightness in your calves and hamstrings.

  • Start by sitting on the floor. Keep your right leg extended and draw in your left leg until it touches your inner right tight.
  • Grab your toes on the right leg with both hands and pull gently depending on your flexibility.
  • Hold this stretch for 15 to 20 seconds. Remember to inhale and exhale.
  • If you're not flexible enough to grab your toes, you can use a towel or resistance band to hook your feet and pull.

Lower Back extension stretch

This stretch will help release tension in your lower back muscles.

  • Start by lying on your stomach face down.
  • Bend your arms and place them on the side of your body.
  • Keep your feet down and lift your upper body.
  • You can use your hands to help lift off from the floor.
  • Chest needs to clear the floor for a full range of motion.
  • Breathe in on your way up and exhale when you return down. 

Kneeling superman

This stretch will help strengthen your abdominal muscles and align your spine. 

  • Start by getting down on your hands and knees. use a mat for extra comfort.
  • Engage your core muscles and keep your back straight. Squeeze your glutes for stability.
  • Extend one arm forward and the opposite leg back.
  • Hold this position for a couple of seconds.
  • Return and switch sides.
  • Keep your head inline with your body. Do not lift your head too high. 

Seated piriformis Stretch

This stretch will help loosen up your tight glutes and piriformis. 

  • Begin seated on the ground with your legs extended.
  • Bring one leg up and cross your foot over the other leg.
  • Turn your body in the direction of your bent leg. Use your aim to press your leg towards your chest.
  • Keep your back straight and hold for seconds. Repeat on the opposite side.

Cat pose

This stretch opens up your spine and improves flexibility.

  • Drop down onto your four points. Keep your spine parallel to the floor.
  • As you inhale, curve your spine, bring your tail bone upwards and look up towards the ceiling.
  • As you exhale, hunch your spine and bring it up towards the ceiling.
  • Repeat this movement back and fourth in tune with your breathe. Do this for 1 to 2 minutes.
